How Occupational Therapy can help
What is making you think your child needs Occupational Therapy?
Have they already got a diagnosis? Are they struggling with some aspects at home or school? Maybe they are not progressing like their peers? Or reaching their developmental milestones like their siblings did?
This worry can eat you up inside, as parents the first thing we ask ourselves is "what am I not doing right"?
Occasionally, children just need a little extra support in their development, or focus on certain information being presented or taught in a different way.
Cavan Children's Occupational Therapy want to make their, AND your world more fun, less stressful & most importantly a much happier place for all.
We offer a wide range of services to children with and without a diagnosis. Including conditions such as:
- Developmental Coordination Disorder
- Autism
- ADHD
- ADD
- Sensory Processing Challenges
- Downs Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Developmental Delay
- Specific Learning Difficulties
- Dyspraxia
- Dyslexia
- Dysgraphia
- Various genetic / developmental syndromes.
We don't focus on their diagnosis, rather what they want to achieve and do despite their diagnosis.

Our OT Services for your Child
PRE-ASSESSMENTS
The Pre- Assessment is a consultation that lasts no longer than an hour. We will chat about everyday life for your child & family and focus on your areas of concerns.
We use this time to offer advice, strategies, top tips & resources for you to trial for a few weeks / months with your child to ascertain if a full assessment is required.
This is ideal if your child is perhaps struggling in a few specific areas, or you are seeking some insight and guidance on how best you can support your child's development. Here our focus is on positive health promotion of wellbeing and improving your child's participation in the areas of life they are finding tricky.
ASSESSMENTS
We offer a full range of child centred standardised and non- standardised assessments.
These include Movement, Visual, Sensory, Handwriting, Life Skills and Perception Assessments.
We use the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) to set our assessment and therapy goals. This ensures you get an accurate and measurable outcome for your child.
All of our assessments are completely child and family focused. We do not believe in a one size fits all approach therefore we can adapt all assessments to suit your child.
INTERVENTION
We strongly feel that the aims of the therapy should be directed by you and your child; each goal is focused on what is important to YOUR life.
We offer therapy to focus on gross & fine motor skills, handwriting, improving tone & stability, regulating our sensory systems, ball skills, bike riding, learning to dress, using cutlery, shower/ bathing, kitchen practice, shopping practice to name but a few...
We design & deliver a tailored program that endeavours to help your child in whatever aspect of their life that they are finding challenging.
WORKSHOPS
Cavan Children's Occupational Therapy have experience at running a wide range of workshops for children, parents, colleagues in education and support groups.
Please get in touch if there are any specific classes that you would like to see available for your child.
Once we get an idea of how much interest there is, we can start to roll them out.
